Period 1 - History of Rock & Roll

  • The History of Rock & Roll seeks to balance the understanding the development and significance of Rock & Roll in its historical and social environment with maintaining a focus on listening to the music as the main mode of understanding.  Students will have a chance to be the rock critic as they study the chronological history of rock and roll music, films and video. Class assignments will be organized around lectures, small group discussions and in-class activities.  Students will develop skills in expressing their opinions orally and in writing, and will learn to analyze the music for content and meaning. This course meets the core content standards of the visual & performing arts in the state of New Jersey.
